  • OSHA: Ondo State House Of Assembly Receives Petition To Probe Governor Akeredolu For Spending N7.3billion On ‘Contingency’ Without Approval

FCG Reporters had exclusively reported how the governor gave approval for the billions of Naira around the time that he was on medical leave in Germany.

An Ondo State Youths ambassador, Oluyemi Fasipe, has called on the Ondo State House of Assembly to probe the N7.3billion spent without budgetary allocation by the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu for “contingency” between July and September 2023.

FCG Reporters had exclusively reported how the governor gave approval for the billions of Naira around the time that he was on medical leave in Germany.

He had embarked on medical leave on June 7 but returned to the country in September.

The state budget performance report obtained by SaharaReporters revealed that the Akeredolu-led government in the last 9 months spent over N8,169,005,150.58 on “contingency” instead of the N1,069,000,000.00 appropriated and approved in the 2023 budget by the Ondo State House of Assembly.

This suggested that N7,100,005,150.58 was illegally spent above the budget ceiling on “contingency”.

In a letter through the Speaker to the Assembly, Fasipe asked the lawmakers to reconvene at the earliest convenience to address “this pressing issue.”

He also asked the Speaker set up a panel to probe the alleged financial recklessness by Akeredolu.

The letter read, “I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention a matter of great concern that demands immediate action from the esteemed members of the Ondo State House of Assembly.

It has come to my attention, as a concerned citizen and indigene of Ondo State, that there are serious allegations of financial recklessness (7.3 billion naira contingency fund) within the state government.

“In light of these allegations, I urge the honorable members of the Ondo State House of Assembly to reconvene at the earliest convenience to address this pressing issue.

“I respectfully request that the Assembly passes a vote of no confidence on the accounting officers of the state government implicated in these allegations.

“Furthermore, I advocate for the establishment of a special ad hoc committee to conduct a thorough and holistic investigation into the case of financial recklessness. This committee must comprise individuals of unquestionable integrity, equipped to ensure a fair and unbiased inquiry.

“The citizens of Ondo State place great trust in the House of Assembly to uphold transparency, accountability, and the overall well-being of our state. Therefore, I believe that a swift and comprehensive response to these allegations is crucial to maintaining public trust and confidence in our democratic institutions.

“I appreciate your attention to this matter and trust that the Ondo State House of Assembly will act promptly to address these concerns and uphold the principles of good governance. Thank you for your commitment to serving the people of Ondo State.”
