ADC Cross River Condemns ‘Unauthorized’ Meeting, Pledges to Protect Party Unity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Cross River State has rejected attempts by non-members to hijack its organizational structure, affirming that the party remains firmly united under the leadership of State Chairman Ambassador Dr. John Oga.
Speaking to journalists in Calabar on behalf of the state chairman, Vice Chairman for the Central Senatorial District, Dr. McPhalane Ejah, described the recent activities by unauthorised individuals as a “troubling development” orchestrated by persons not recognised by the party.
Ejah commended the dedication of party members across the state and reaffirmed ADC’s commitment to people-centred governance and democratic principles. “As an opposition party, ADC in Cross River State is focused on development that prioritizes the people. We reject impunity and will not tolerate actions that undermine the democratic will of the populace,” he stated.
The party clarified that there is no faction within the ADC in the state, and the only recognised leadership is that of Dr. John Oga. Ejah dismissed the scheduled inauguration of a so-called Membership Mobilization, Registration, and Revalidation Committee for the 18 local government areas, labeling the initiative as “unknown and unrecognised” by the state executive.
“The state leadership had no involvement in the compilation of the purported committee’s membership. The composition is alien to us, and the committee has refused to acknowledge our authority,” Ejah explained, describing the effort as a calculated attempt to hijack the party for personal gain.
To prevent potential unrest, the ADC reported the unauthorised meeting, which was scheduled at the Ascot Event Centre along Marian Road in Calabar, to security agencies. A formal letter was sent to the Commissioner of Police warning that the event could escalate into a public disturbance.
Ejah emphasised that the party’s action was motivated solely by its commitment to peace. “ADC abhors violence and acted to ensure no incident is attributed to the party,” he said, noting that the meeting’s convener reportedly acknowledged the need to respect party authority but claimed the event could not be cancelled due to prior commitments.
Addressing speculation that the ruling party had a hand in the dispute, Ejah dismissed such claims as baseless, describing them as rooted in ignorance. He said, “The ruling party has no involvement. Our engagement with the police was purely to maintain law and order,”
