ADC Slams Federal Government for Blaming Trump Over Escalating Insecurity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sharply criticised the Federal Government for attributing Nigeria’s rising insecurity to comments allegedly made by former United States President, Donald Trump. The party described the claim as “an embarrassing attempt to divert responsibility” from the nation’s deep-rooted security failures.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ADC said it was “shocking and disappointing” that government officials would link the growing wave of banditry, kidnappings, and insurgent attacks to a foreign figure rather than addressing the systemic issues fueling the crisis.
According to the party, the security challenges currently ravaging several parts of the country did not begin overnight and cannot be explained away by external rhetoric. Instead, the ADC insisted that the government must take ownership of its lapses in intelligence gathering, insufficient funding for security operations, weak border control, and the insufficient political will to dismantle criminal networks.
The statement noted that blaming Trump—who has long left office—amounts to trivialising the experiences of citizens who live daily under the threat of violence. “Nigerians are tired of excuses. What the country needs is a coherent counterterrorism strategy, not unproductive finger-pointing,” the party stressed.
The ADC further urged the Federal Government to deploy technology-driven surveillance, strengthen community policing frameworks, and enhance collaboration among security agencies. It also called for urgent reforms within the military and police to boost morale and accountability.
Political analysts say the ADC’s remarks reflect a broader public frustration with the government’s handling of insecurity. With abductions, rural attacks, and inter-communal violence increasing in several regions, many Nigerians expect stronger action and clearer communication from leaders.
The ADC reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for policies that prioritise the safety and welfare of citizens. It also warned that unless the government stops shifting blame and begins implementing actionable solutions, the country risks sliding further into inst
ability.
