Adeleke’s Alleged Plot to Procure Arrest of Banik, Omowaiye, Other APC Chieftains Exposed

Disturbing revelations have emerged regarding an alleged plot by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke to deploy security institutions as political weapons against key opposition figures ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Sources familiar with the development alleged that Governor Adeleke directed the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, CSP Adekunle Omoyele (Rtd), to compile a list of prominent APC chieftains targeted for arrest and detention despite the absence of any known criminal allegations against them.
According to the sources, the alleged scheme encountered initial resistance when it was presented to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11. Questions were reportedly raised about the absence of any formal complaint and the failure to channel the matter through the Osun State Police Command in line with established procedures.
The sources claimed that those behind the move allegedly expressed concerns that the Commissioner of Police in Osun State would be unwilling to cooperate with what they described as a politically motivated operation. It was further alleged that efforts subsequently shifted toward procuring a petition that could serve as a legal cover for the planned arrests and provide grounds for obtaining warrants against the targeted individuals.
Even more troubling are allegations that the ultimate objective is not prosecution based on credible evidence but the political incapacitation of influential opposition figures through prolonged detention and court-ordered remand during the critical pre-election period.
Those reportedly listed for the proposed arrests include:
1. Chief Kazeem Oyewale (Asiri Eniba)
2. Chief Lawrence Dada (The Law)
3. Alhaji Kabir Adeoye (Ajisope)
4. Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye
5. Alhaji Bayo Adeleke (Banik).
Political observers have described the allegations as deeply alarming, warning that any attempt to weaponise security agencies against political opponents would constitute a grave assault on democratic norms, the rule of law and the integrity of the electoral process.
There are growing calls on the Inspector-General of Police to urgently investigate the allegations and ensure that neither the Nigeria Police Force nor any other security institution is drawn into partisan political manoeuvres capable of undermining public confidence in the neutrality of law enforcement agencies.
Observers insist that democracy cannot thrive in an atmosphere of intimidation, selective persecution and abuse of state power. They maintain that any arrest, investigation or prosecution must be based solely on credible evidence and due process, not political calculations or electoral considerations.
