Adeyanju to Wike: FCT Residents Will Decide Their Senator, Not You

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has asserted that only the residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have the authority to decide who will be elected as senator in 2027, not Minister Nyesom Wike.

Adeyanju emphasized that Wike cannot impose his will on the FCT, contrasting it with Rivers State, where election results have been manipulated through intimidation, according to News360 Nigeria.

This statement comes amidst ongoing tensions between Wike and the FCT senator, Ireti Kingibe. Kingibe criticized Wike for focusing on infrastructural projects that she claimed did not significantly benefit FCT residents and accused him of neglecting their needs.

In response, Wike warned that Kingibe would not secure a return to the Senate in 2027.

Adeyanju countered by reminding Wike that even sitting presidents have been defeated in the FCT, underscoring the importance of local decision-making. He remarked, “Only the people of FCT can decide who becomes Senator in 2027, not Wike. The arrogance of power is what will make Wike think he can decide for the people. FCT is not Rivers, where people write results and shoot guns.”

Adeyanju also criticized the perceived arrogance of some Nigerian politicians, comparing them to celebrities and pastors who misuse their influence and power.
