APC convention to showcase party unity, democratic strength — FG

The Federal Government has said the forthcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will demonstrate the party’s unity, democratic maturity, and commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the statement on Thursday in Abuja during a World Media Briefing ahead of the party’s 8th National Convention scheduled for March 27–28, 2026.

Describing the convention as a defining moment for the ruling party, Idris said it would bring together delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to elect leaders, review policies, and chart a strategic direction for the APC.

“This is not just a routine political exercise, but a critical moment of reflection, consolidation, and forward planning,” he said.

He added that the gathering underscores the party’s resolve to strengthen democratic values, deepen internal governance, and align its processes with national development priorities.

With the theme “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the minister said the convention reflects the APC’s commitment to cohesion, inclusiveness, and continuity, while reinforcing alignment with the administration’s broader governance agenda.

Idris noted that the APC has evolved into a resilient political platform capable of managing leadership transitions in an orderly and transparent manner, adding that its diversity remains a key strength in promoting national unity and development.

He assured Nigerians and the international community that all arrangements had been finalised to ensure a smooth, credible, and transparent exercise at Eagle Square, Abuja.

“As the convention approaches, the APC reaffirms its unity and collective responsibility. This gathering will showcase our commitment to democratic ideals, organisational discipline, and inclusive decision-making,” he said.

The minister also commended President Tinubu for his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and his leadership in fostering inclusivity within the party.

Other top government officials and party stakeholders, including Hannatu Musawa, Festus Keyamo, and presidential aides Sunday Dare and Bayo Onanuga, attended the briefing.

The APC convention is expected to shape the party’s future direction as it seeks to consolidate governance and strengthen democratic institutions in Nigeria.
