BREAKING: Again, Protests Erupt in Kano Over Dissolution of Emirate Council
Massive protests have broken out in Rano Local Government Area, Kano, following the recent dissolution of their Emirate Council by State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The governor’s decision has triggered widespread anger among residents, who have taken to the streets in large numbers.
The announcement of the council’s dissolution has met with significant opposition from the local community. Protesters, chanting slogans and carrying placards, are demanding the reinstatement of their traditional council. The atmosphere in Kano remains tense as demonstrators march through the town, voicing their discontent with the government’s action.
Eyewitnesses report that the protests, which began early in the morning, have significantly disrupted daily activities. Businesses and schools have closed as a precaution, and the usually busy local market is now deserted. Residents have set up roadblocks, halting vehicular movement and urging Governor Yusuf to reverse his decision.
Protesters accuse the governor of disrespecting their heritage and failing to consult with key stakeholders before making such a substantial decision. “We will not accept this decision. Our emirate is part of our identity, and dissolving it is an attack on our culture and history,” said one protester.
Security forces have been deployed to manage the situation and prevent any potential escalation of violence.
