“Come Back to PDP” — Bala Mohammed Makes Emotional Appeal to Peter Obi Ahead of 2027
Bauchi, Nigeria – In a move that could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has publicly appealed to the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to return to the PDP.
The appeal was made on Friday during Obi’s courtesy visit to the Bauchi Government House, where both leaders met behind closed doors for what sources described as “high-level political consultations.” Governor Mohammed warmly welcomed Obi, praising his track record, political influence, and commitment to good governance, while stressing that Nigeria needed all capable leaders to unite under a common front.
“I am appealing to you, my brother, to come back to our great party, the PDP. Together, we can build a stronger coalition to rescue this country,” Bala reportedly said during their interaction.
Political analysts say the meeting comes amid growing calls from within the PDP for a strategic realignment with notable political figures who left the party in recent years. In June, a pro-PDP group known as Bala Agents’ Mandate urged both Peter Obi and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi to return to the party and rally behind Bala Mohammed as a possible presidential flagbearer in 2027.
Although Peter Obi has not publicly confirmed any move to rejoin the PDP, his meeting with Bala Mohammed and the governor’s public appeal have fueled speculation about possible alliances and mergers that could significantly influence the outcome of the next presidential race.
The development adds a new layer of intrigue to Nigeria’s evolving political scene, with many watching closely to see whether these overtures will lead to a united opposition front against the ruling party in 2027.
