Develop pension scheme for ex int’l sports athletes, coaches – Mazi Okoronkwo urges FG
FCG reports that Nigeria ex int’l boxer, and ambassador for sports, Mazi Comr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo has called on Federal Government of Nigeria and State Government to develop pension scheme for, National ,ex internationals sports athletes and coaches that are not under sports council employment
The Ex International Boxer made this proposal from his residence in Enugu on Friday while addressing the newsmen, FCG learnt.
Mazi Okoronkwo maintained that the pension scheme should be extended to film makers, musicians, authors and other celebrities who have projected the image of the state and the nation at large.
The sports Ambassador has called on President Bola Tinubu, State Governors, Senators both in National and State Assembly to see this as a task and a challenge to this administration also as a social welfare of Nigerian citizens considering the bad condition of ageing Nigerian Heroes like the case of Ex international Boxer Jeremiah Okorodudu and other sports retired active athletes and coaches who were not able to save or prepare for old age while giving all the God Given talent in serving the Nation with the interest of one Nigeria.
While waiting for future bill or law that will take care of the saving of lives of National Sports athletes, Mazi Okoronkwo in another development has called on Federal Government of Nigeria and Lagos State Government for speedy intervention on the case of Jeremiah Okorodudu the Olympian athlete.
Mazi Okoronkwo insisted that this is a time Lagos State Government will demonstrate whether the Governor and the Government are in the same page. Jeremiah Okorodudu have lived most of his life in Lagos and never consider to base in his ancestry home which is Delta because he believed in one Nation and one people. He has helped some Nigerian boxers both home and abroad among others non sportsmen and women in the society based on his level.
