Emir of Kano Dispute: How Embattled Bayero is Enjoying Tinubu’s Support Because Of His Yoruba Blood — NNPP

Hashim Dungurawa, the chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, has accused President Bola Tinubu of trying to disrupt the state by supporting the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, due to their shared Yoruba heritage.
In a press briefing on Sunday in Kano, Dungurawa highlighted the achievements of the NNPP over the past year and questioned the necessity of the Emir receiving special protection from the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and other security agencies against the state’s interests.
Dungurawa cautioned that President Tinubu’s alleged interference in the Kano Emirate issue could have political repercussions in 2027. He stated, “If the President thinks he can use a few of his kinsmen in Kano and the alleged Yoruba lineage of Bayero to maintain the deposed Emir in the state, he will face consequences in 2027.”
He urged the President to resolve the Kano Emirate crisis by removing the deposed Emir from Kano. Additionally, Dungurawa reaffirmed that the NNPP plans to nominate Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that Kwankwaso will be Nigeria’s next president.
Dungurawa also called for a review of the 2019 election results, asserting that Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate-past governor of Kano State and APC national chairman, did not legitimately win his second term as governor.
