Gumi Reacts to Peter Obi’s Move to ADC Ahead of 2027

Renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has spoken on the defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing that no single politician has the power to dictate the future of Nigerians as the 2027 general election approaches.
Gumi called on political leaders to pay attention to the yearnings of the populace and place national interest above personal ambition. His remarks came shortly after Obi formally announced his switch to the ADC in Enugu, explaining that the decision was motivated by his resolve to help rebuild and reposition Nigeria ahead of the next election.
Commenting on the development via his Facebook page, Gumi shared a report of Obi’s defection and described it as evidence of progress in the country’s democratic process.
According to him, Nigeria’s democracy is evolving, and the era where politicians could take the people for granted is fast fading. He added that leaders must listen to the voices of the citizens and act responsibly, noting that time is running out and Nigerians can no longer be held hostage by political interests.
