Gunmen Attack Bus, Kidnap Passengers in Ondo State

Gunmen reportedly kidnapped several travelers in the Irun Akoko area of Ondo State, specifically along the Irun/Imesi Ekiti Road in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area.

The attack occurred around 6 p.m. on Saturday, targeting an 18-passenger bus. The assailants ambushed the bus and forced the passengers into a nearby forest, taking them to an undisclosed location.

The exact number of kidnapped victims is currently unknown, but it has been confirmed that they were passengers on the commercial bus.

Security forces, including police officers, soldiers, and members of the Amotekun Corps from both Ondo and Ekiti states, along with local vigilantes, are actively searching the forests to rescue the kidnapped individuals.

On Sunday, Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of the Amotekun Corps, confirmed the incident. He stated that the security teams are pursuing the kidnappers and expressed confidence that the remaining victims would be safely recovered.

Adeleye remarked, “Our men and soldiers from Ekiti are thoroughly searching the forest. Not all 18 passengers were kidnapped; some managed to escape, and our teams have already rescued a few victims during the night. The search continues.”
