How My Older Sister Just Got a Death Threat on WhatsApp

How My Older Sister Just Got a Death Threat on WhatsApp

We just received a disturbing message, and while it seems like it could be a scam, I’d rather be cautious. The sender actually used my sister’s name exactly as it appears on Truecaller. Here’s what the message said — has anyone come across something similar before?

The message came from WhatsApp number +234 701 892 3612.

> “The reason I’m contacting you now is because of how you’ve been treating me. Someone close to you wants to kill you. Everything he said, I secretly recorded — videos, voice notes — he didn’t realize I was recording. I know why I did it. The money he paid us doesn’t matter to me. If he paid me 500k, would I take someone’s life or destroy a family? No. I told my guys to calm down because I planned to call you — I know you well. So tell me, who have you had problems with? Don’t hide anything from me.”

Call me back on this number: 09076454185 (Note: this is a different number they want her to call specifically.)

When my sister called, the man asked if she’d seen his message. When she asked what it was about, he hung up. Her husband then recorded a voice note thanking them for the “information,” and requested two things:

1. The video (not just the audio) of the person allegedly planning this act.

2. He made it clear that if this was a prank or some kind of scam, they didn’t understand the support his wife has. Such a “joke” would never be tolerated, and he would stand up firmly if it was a real threat. He insisted any such behavior stop immediately.

Before sending the voice note, he took a screenshot of the threat message on my sister’s phone.

After receiving the initial threat, they quickly deleted the message and responded with a voice note meant to show they weren’t intimidated. Since my sister’s husband remained calm and didn’t react angrily, the attackers had nothing else to say but send a follow-up voice message that repeated words over and over. Then they wrote a message saying they were blocking her — which they did. She blocked them back, and by the next morning, they had also deleted their voice note threat.

Can someone help track this number? We want to find out who is behind all this.
