The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced its intention to work alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to combat the rising insecurity in Abuja.
This commitment was revealed by Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu during an emergency meeting, which also marked the opening of the CJTF operational office in the capital.
Representing the Commissioner, Mr. Usman A. Abini, the APO District Police Officer, commended the CJTF for helping to address the staffing challenges faced by the police. “The CJTF effectively bridges the gaps in manpower and visibility,” Abini stated.
He reaffirmed the police’s readiness to collaborate with the CJTF across various sectors, including operations and administration, to enhance community safety. “We are eager to work together to improve the lives of our citizens,” he added.
The collaboration has already made a significant impact, particularly through joint operations in various FCT areas, especially during nighttime patrols in regions like the APO division. Abini noted that these partnerships have been crucial in improving security and reducing crime.
“The CJTF’s close relationship with the community has been essential for our operations,” he remarked, underscoring their role in gathering intelligence and fostering public engagement.
At the event, Prof. Muhammed Kailami, the National Chairman of the CJTF, stressed the need for national unity and security. “Maintaining Nigeria’s unity is a vital task, and that’s our mission,” he asserted.
Kailami characterized the CJTF’s efforts as a noble sacrifice, emphasizing that its members are unpaid volunteers collaborating with law enforcement and military forces. He expressed hope that the government would eventually formalize the CJTF’s role by providing salaries and necessary equipment.
