I Have No Regrets – Malami Breaks Silence, Accuses EFCC of Rights Violation

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has declared that he stands by his decisions while in office, insisting he has no regrets despite ongoing legal challenges against him.
Malami made the remarks during a recent interview conducted in Hausa, where he also accused security agencies of breaching his constitutional rights in the course of investigations. According to The Punch, the former minister alleged that operatives searched his residences and business premises without prior notice or his presence.
“I have been in EFCC custody, Kuje Prison, and also with the DSS. I see everything as the will of God, but I will defend myself,” Malami said. He maintained that due process was not followed during the searches, stressing that he was entitled to be present while his properties were being examined.
He further argued that such actions contravene constitutional provisions guiding search and seizure procedures. “I have the right to supervise any search carried out on my property and to know what is being taken,” he added.
The former AGF, however, remained resolute about his time in office, stating clearly that he has no regrets over the decisions he made while serving in government.
Malami, alongside his wife and son, is currently facing a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). As reported by The Guardian Nigeria, the defendants have all pleaded not guilty to the charges and are preparing to contest the case in court.
Legal analysts say the case is likely to draw significant public attention, given Malami’s prominent role in the previous administration. According to The Nation Newspaper, the proceedings could test the strength of Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework, particularly in cases involving high-profile political figures.
As the trial unfolds, Malami has vowed to challenge the allegations and clear his name, maintaining that both the legal process and public scrutiny will ultimately determine the outcome.
