Kano State Agency Impounds 4,600 Bottles Of Alcoholic Drinks

The Kano Road and Traffic Agency said, on Monday, that it arrested a truck conveying more than 4,600 bottles of alcoholic drinks.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement released in Kano.
Abubakar said, “The truck, with registration number FGG 407 XB, was apprehended along Ibrahim Taiwo Road around 4 am on Sunday by officers of the agency. Immediately the driver saw the officers of the agency, he parked the truck and ran away.”
He quoted KAROTA Managing Director, Faisal Kabir, as saying, “Once the investigation is completed, we will hand them (drinks) over to Hisbah Board for necessary action.”
Kabir called on the general public to support the agency in its mandate to ensure the security of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports the Kano State government had prohibited the consumption of beer in all parts of the state.
Hisbah, a religious police force in the state, has been given the mandate to confiscate and destroy bottles of alcoholic beverages in line with the dictates of Sharia law.
