Mercy Ishaya, a 25-year-old woman who was kidnapped, has been rescued and reunited with her family. She was taken from New Bwari in Tafa Local Government Area, Niger State, on August 28, 2024. During the abduction, her father, Godiya Ishaya, was brutally attacked and left severely injured.
Mercy’s chance for freedom came when soldiers at a checkpoint in Kaduna intercepted a Toyota Sienna carrying the kidnappers who were fleeing from a security operation in Dogon-Daji Forest, Kagarko Local Government Area. According to Daily Trust, upon stopping the vehicle, Mercy identified herself to the soldiers and informed them of her situation, providing her father’s phone number for verification.
She was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment before being reunited with her family, while the suspects were detained at a military barracks in Kaduna. Abubakar Hussaini, the commander of vigilantes in Tafa LGA, confirmed the rescue and the subsequent events.
