Kukah Centre Calls Out Beer Spending Amid Tough Economic Times

The Kukah Centre has expressed concern over the excessive spending on beer despite the ongoing economic hardships in the country. During a recent event, leaders emphasized the need to promote nutrition and breastfeeding, underscoring that these issues are not only biological but also deeply spiritual. They called on community members to raise awareness within their churches and congregations.
Swanta Anna, the Project Officer at Kukah Centre, urged attendees to take the “Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria” initiative seriously, noting that the World Bank has invested $232 million into this critical project.
“This initiative is vital for improving nutrition in Nigeria. Our research has helped identify key areas for focus, especially given the high rates of infant mortality. If a child survives past the age of four, their chances of survival improve significantly,” she explained.
Anna reflected on the stark realities of past generations, sharing her own experiences of growing up during the Nigerian Civil War, when many of her peers fell victim to hunger and malnutrition. “This is a crucial time in every child’s life, and we must prioritize their well-being,” she concluded.
