Kwankwaso Reverses Course, Backs Governor Yusuf and NNPP Defections to APC

In a surprising political twist, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has publicly endorsed Governor Abba Yusuf and other officials’ decision to leave the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The endorsement came via a short video shared by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, on Tuesday, shocking many political observers in Kano State. Previously, Kwankwaso had strongly opposed the defections, accusing those planning to switch parties of betraying the electorate that voted for them under the NNPP banner.
In the video, Kwankwaso explained that his support for the defections is intended to respect the political rights of the officials and to reduce rising tensions among NNPP members in the state. Analysts suggest that by endorsing the move, Kwankwaso is attempting to regain influence over a situation that had largely moved beyond his control, choosing to lead the political shift rather than be sidelined by it.
