Lagos CP Dismisses Extortion Allegations Against Task Force Operatives

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Adegoke Fayoade, has dismissed allegations that operatives of the state task force were involved in extorting members of the public, describing the claims as unfounded and lacking credible evidence.

Fayoade made the clarification while reacting to reports circulating on social media that accused officials attached to the task force of demanding money from motorists and traders during enforcement operations across parts of the state.

According to the police chief, preliminary findings by the command showed no proof that officers engaged in such misconduct. He stressed that the command maintains a strict policy against corruption and would not hesitate to take disciplinary action if any officer is found guilty of wrongdoing.

The commissioner explained that the task force plays an important role in maintaining law and order, particularly in areas prone to traffic violations, street trading, and other activities that obstruct public spaces in Lagos. He noted that the activities of the operatives are closely monitored to ensure they operate within the law.

Fayoade urged residents to report any case of extortion or harassment directly to the police command through official complaint channels, assuring that every report would be investigated thoroughly.

He also cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information online, warning that such actions could damage the reputation of officers who are carrying out their duties professionally.

While reiterating the command’s commitment to transparency and accountability, the commissioner encouraged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agents and support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and order in the state.

The Lagos Police Command reaffirmed that it remains committed to protecting the rights of citizens while ensuring that security and public order are maintained across the state.
