Lagos Police Move to Safeguard Schools, Worship Centres in New Security Drive

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a renewed security strategy aimed at strengthening safety across schools, worship centres, and other public institutions in the state. The move comes as part of a broader effort to prevent criminal activities and reassure residents amid rising concerns about security nationwide.
Speaking through its spokesperson, the Command emphasized that the initiative is designed to anticipate threats before they occur, while also enhancing collaboration between law enforcement officers and community stakeholders. According to the police, security heads of schools, religious establishments, and vulnerable facilities are expected to benefit from a streamlined communication channel that will allow faster reporting and quicker deployment of patrol teams.
Under the new security drive, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) have been instructed to intensify surveillance around learning institutions and high-density worship zones, particularly during peak hours. Regular patrols, intelligence gathering, and engagement with community leaders will form the backbone of the operation.
The Command also urged school administrators, church leaders, and mosque committees to conduct routine security assessments and promptly share information that may help avert danger. Residents were reminded to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements through approved emergency numbers.
Security analysts say the initiative reflects a proactive approach by the Lagos Police Command, especially at a time when criminal groups increasingly target soft spots. With Lagos hosting millions of daily commuters and hundreds of public institutions, experts believe the renewed focus on preventive policing could play a crucial role in averting attacks.
The police assured Lagosians that the new operation is not a temporary fix but an ongoing commitment to keeping the state safer. As residents return to schools, offices, markets, and places of worship
