Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed that he has received a formal invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and says he is prepared to cooperate fully with the agency.

Malami made this known on Friday through a statement shared on his personal Facebook page, stressing that he remains committed to the ideals of accountability and transparency in public office.

“I wish to acknowledge that I have been invited by the EFCthe EFCC has invited me. As a patriotic and law-abiding citizen, I am fully prepared to honour the invitation,” he wrote.

He noted that making the information public aligns with his long-standing belief in openness and responsible governance. According to him, transparency remains a core principle he has consistently promoted throughout his career. He added that he would continue to update Nigerians as the situation progresses.

Malami held the position of Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. His years in office were marked by major legal battles, including efforts toward asset recovery, anti-corruption initiatives, and several controversial policy decisions that attracted significant national and global attention.

He also played key roles in cases involving complex financial crimes, international arbitration matters, and reforms aimed at strengthening governance structures. In the later part of his tenure, Malami faced intense public scrutiny relating to asset declarations, contract processes, and the handling of recovered funds — allegations he repeatedly refuted.

As of the time this report was compiled, the EFCC had yet to provide specific information about the nature or details of the invitation extended to the former minister.
