Man Kills Wife Over Alleged Extramarital Affair in Ogun State
In Idekan Farm Settlement, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, residents were shocked when Matthew James allegedly killed his 55-year-old wife, Etim Mary, suspecting her of infidelity. The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. According to community and police sources, James, now in police custody, attacked Mary with a machete, claiming they had a blood covenant not to betray each other.Â
An eyewitness reported that James, who married Mary later in life, did not flee the scene. State police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, stating Mary was found with severe wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta. A similar incident occurred in April in Ekiti, where Dare Onipede allegedly killed his wife, Arinola, over infidelity accusations.
