The briefing, organized by representatives of the affected community, civil society groups, APC, and legal advocates, centered on what they described as a “gross abuse of power” and a “threat to grassroots leadership and civil liberties.” According to eyewitnesses and community representatives, the arrests occurred without prior notice, formal charges, or adherence to due process, leading to widespread outrage among residents.
Speakers at the event emphasized the urgent need for an impartial investigation into the incident, calling on the Osun State Government, the judiciary, and human rights organizations to intervene. They also highlighted broader concerns regarding the scope of Amotekun’s mandate, the legal framework governing its operations, and the importance of upholding human rights in community policing efforts.
