Momodu Criticises Utomi Over Stance on Obi’s Political Options

Prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) figure, Dele Momodu, has criticised renowned political economist, Professor Pat Utomi, over his remarks concerning the political prospects of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Momodu reacted in a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, expressing displeasure with Utomi’s comments following Obi’s reported move to the ADC.
It will be recalled that Utomi, during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, said he would withdraw his backing for Obi if the former Anambra State governor accepted a vice-presidential slot within the emerging opposition coalition.
Momodu said Utomi’s position was surprising and contrary to democratic principles. According to him, dismissing the possibility of Obi serving as a running mate undermines the essence of political choice.
He argued that anyone who insists Obi must only contest as a presidential candidate does not truly support democratic freedom or the collective effort to save Nigeria from authoritarian tendencies.
