Nigerian, Kenyan Arrested in Anti-Drug Operation in Nairobi Suburb

Security operatives in Kenya have apprehended two suspected drug traffickers, including a Nigerian national, following a coordinated anti-narcotics operation in the Nairobi metropolitan area.
The suspects, identified as Okeke Ikechukwu and Alex Opondo, were arrested in Ruaka, Kiambu County, after a targeted raid on a residential apartment. Authorities said the operation was carried out by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit in collaboration with the Transnational Organised Crime Unit.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the suspects had initially been under surveillance over intelligence suggesting plans for a drug transaction in Syokimau, Machakos County. However, operatives discovered that the planned exchange had been called off before their arrival, prompting a shift in strategy.
The security team subsequently tracked the suspects to a residence within Mbuti Apartment in Ruaka, where a search was conducted. During the operation, officers recovered substances believed to be narcotics, along with digital weighing scales, multiple mobile devices, foreign travel documents, and cash in both Kenyan and Nigerian currencies.
According to The Punch, the arrest underscores ongoing efforts by regional law enforcement agencies to dismantle transnational drug networks operating across East and West Africa.
Both suspects are currently being held at police facilities in Ruaraka and Pangani as investigations continue. Authorities say efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be connected to the alleged trafficking operation.
The suspects are expected to be formally charged in court as law enforcement intensifies its crackdown on organised drug-related crimes in the region.
