NNPP Dissolves Kano Leadership Ahead of Governor Abba Yusuf’s Move to APC

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced the dissolution of its Kano State Executive, along with all local government and ward leaders, ahead of Governor Abba Yusuf’s reported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Friday, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Oladipo Johnson said the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) will soon set up caretaker committees to manage party affairs in the state.
The move comes amid ongoing tensions between Governor Yusuf and the NNPP National Leader and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Reports indicate that Yusuf is poised to join the APC, a decision strongly opposed by Kwankwaso. The Kano chapter of the APC has confirmed that Yusuf’s defection is expected in the coming days.
Johnson stressed that the dissolution follows the party’s constitutional provisions. He said:
*”The National Working Committee of the NNPP, after an emergency meeting, has dissolved its Executive Committees at the State, Local Government, and Ward levels in Kano State, in line with the party’s constitution. Caretaker Committees will be appointed to manage interim operations, with further instructions to follow. We thank all former officeholders for their invaluable contributions to the party.”*
