PDP BoT Criticizes NWC for Delaying NEC Meeting, Plans Peace Talks with Wike

PDP BoT Criticizes NWC for Delaying NEC Meeting, Plans Peace Talks with Wike

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the National Working Committee (NWC) for its repeated postponements of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. During an emergency session in Abuja on Thursday, PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, voiced the Board’s frustration over the ongoing delays.

Wabara revealed that the BoT is committed to resolving the internal issues within the party and intends to hold peace talks with former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in January. This initiative forms part of the BoT’s broader effort to foster unity and stability within the party.

Since Umar Damagum took over as acting National Chairman following Senator Iyorchia Ayu’s court-mandated removal, his leadership has been under increasing scrutiny. Calls for his resignation have grown, particularly due to the ongoing delays in organizing the crucial NEC meeting.

The 99th NEC meeting, initially scheduled for August 15, has been postponed several times, first to October 24, then to November 28, and now indefinitely. The delay has prompted the PDP Governors’ Forum, headed by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, to demand that the meeting be held by February at the latest.

Wabara expressed his concerns about the damage caused by these delays, stating, “These constant postponements are undermining the trust and confidence of our members. We must act swiftly to restore integrity and credibility within the party.”

He emphasized that the party’s strength lies in its unity and adherence to democratic principles. The NEC, he noted, plays a vital role in decision-making and fostering collaboration across all levels of leadership.

In addition to internal party matters, Wabara also criticized the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, stating that they have worsened the living conditions of Nigerians. He urged the PDP to present credible alternatives and become a stronger voice for the people suffering from economic hardships.

As the BoT works to address these internal challenges, Wabara reminded the party that its collective vision for a better Nigeria should take precedence over individual ambitions. He called for greater unity and cooperation, particularly among the party’s governors.

The BoT’s efforts to restore peace and resolve conflicts will continue, starting with the planned discussions with Wike in January.
