PDP Takes Action to Prevent Governor Fubara’s Defection

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is actively working to dissuade Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from leaving the party. In response to ongoing speculation about Fubara’s potential defection, the PDP has dispatched a high-profile delegation to meet with him in Rivers State.

The delegation includes prominent party figures such as Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Chairman Ahmed Makarfi, elder statesman Olabode George, and Senator Abdul Ningi. They arrived in Port Harcourt on Tuesday with the aim of convincing Governor Fubara to stay within the PDP.

Despite ongoing rumors suggesting Fubara had already departed from the PDP, the governor had remained tight-lipped about his future plans, which only fueled further speculation.

In his meeting with the delegation, Governor Fubara voiced his concerns about his status within the party but acknowledged that the visit from the BoT had provided him with reassurance regarding his position as a PDP member.

Fubara stated, “What is crucial today is that we remain members of the PDP, and the party’s leaders have come to visit us. This visit should dispel any rumors and affirm to the public that we continue to be part of the Peoples Democratic Party.”

Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the BoT, emphasized the party’s determination to retain control of Rivers State, citing the significant opposition presence in the region. Wabara expressed concern over potential loss, stating, “We were alarmed by the speculation that the party might lose Rivers State. Losing it would be a major setback for Nigeria’s future.”

He continued, “We want to avoid repeating the losses of 2015 and 2023. The individuals here are committed to upholding the rule of law, which, though it may be slow, will always be just. We deeply appreciate Governor Fubara’s perseverance and loyalty to the party.”

Wabara concluded by assuring Fubara of the PDP’s commitment to addressing the situation according to the party’s constitutional framework, reinforcing the importance of the governor’s continued membership in the PDP.
