Police Arrest Four Suspects with Stolen Cows in Oyo

The police in Oyo State have arrested four suspected cattle rustlers after they were allegedly caught in possession of stolen cows during an operation aimed at curbing livestock theft in the state.

According to the command, the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence received by officers about the movement of suspicious individuals transporting cattle believed to have been stolen from a nearby community. Acting on the information, operatives swiftly mobilised and intercepted the suspects while they were attempting to move the animals to another location.

Police sources disclosed that the suspects were unable to provide satisfactory explanations regarding ownership of the cows when questioned. Preliminary investigations indicated that the animals had been stolen from a local herder who had earlier reported the disappearance of several cows from his herd.

The state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrests and said the suspects were taken into custody along with the recovered livestock. The animals have since been secured as evidence while efforts are underway to verify the rightful owner.

He noted that cattle rustling remains a concern in parts of the state, especially in rural farming communities where livestock serves as a major source of livelihood. The police, he said, have intensified patrols and intelligence gathering to combat the crime and protect farmers and herders.

Authorities also assured residents that the suspects would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted if found guilty. The police urged members of the public to continue providing timely information that could help security agencies prevent criminal activities.

Meanwhile, community leaders have commended the swift response of security operatives, saying the arrest would help deter others involved in cattle theft across Oyo State. They also called for sustained collaboration between residents and law enforcement agencies to ensure safety in rural areas.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, stressing that criminal activities such as livestock theft would not be tolerated in the state. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
