Rotimi Amaechi Joins ADC Amid Arson Attack on Party Office in Rivers State

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), completing his registration at Ward 8, Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Friday morning.
The registration took place hours after unknown assailants set fire to a section of the ADC office in the community, causing panic among residents. No arrests had been made as of the time of Amaechi’s registration.
Addressing a large crowd of supporters, Amaechi called for restraint and urged against violent reprisals. “Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody, don’t be violent. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community,” he stated.
Amaechi praised the professionalism of security personnel present, singling out the state Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services for their conduct. He also called on authorities to promptly investigate the arson and bring those responsible to justice.
The defection of Amaechi to the ADC represents a notable boost for the opposition party, which has been steadily increasing its national profile ahead of the 2027 general elections. His move signals strategic momentum for the party in Rivers State and across the country as it seeks to expand its influence in the political landscape.
