Sallah: See The Numbers of People that Died and was Injured in Osun, Ondo, Oyo Accidents

During the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, nine people lost their lives and 78 were injured in road accidents in Osun, Ondo, and Oyo states.

A total of 128 passengers were involved in these accidents, according to Acting Zonal Commanding Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zone RS11, Leye Adegboyega. The FRSC initiated a Sallah Special Patrol Operation from June 14 to mitigate the anticipated increase in road traffic crashes due to heightened human and vehicular movement.

Adegboyega reported: “For the Zone, a total of 3,018 personnel (including 2,155 Regular Marshals and 863 Special Marshals), 57 Patrol Vehicles, 5 Ambulances, and 2 Heavy Duty Tow Trucks have been deployed across the component Commands.

“Our personnel cover about 65 major routes across the Zone daily, ensuring high visibility and alertness. They also engage in traffic calming using red flags to discourage speeding and reduce speed-related crashes.

“In the first three days of the operation, we apprehended 737 traffic offenders for 766 various traffic violations, and conducted 219 Public Enlightenment activities in media outlets, motor parks, churches, mosques, and other public venues to promote road safety awareness.

We provided prompt rescue services for accident victims. A total of 21 vehicles were involved in accidents affecting 128 people, resulting in 9 fatalities and 78 injuries. The injured were quickly transported to hospitals across the Zone with which we have a good relationship for treatment.

“Forty-one other individuals were rescued without injuries and continued their journeys.”

The report urged the public and road users to use the roads responsibly to minimize the loss of lives and property.
