Sam Larry Remains Under Scrutiny After Mohbad’s Death

Since the controversial death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, on September 12, 2023, the life of show promoter Samson Balogun, also known as Sam Larry, has drastically changed.

During their investigation into Mohbad’s death, the police identified Sam Larry and Mohbad’s former record label boss, Naira Marley, as persons of interest. Both men were subsequently arrested and held at the Lagos State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba. Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun approved the police’s request to detain them for 21 days to aid the investigation.

Although released on bail in November, the incident continues to cast a shadow over them. Sam Larry’s social media posts are frequently met with hostile comments from Mohbad’s fans.

Recently, after being involved in an accident in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos, Larry faced online curses instead of sympathy. One user, Rosythrone, commented, “I know my God will complete it soon. He is not a God of half job,” while another, ajeps02, wrote, “Alhaji Sheikh Samsudeen Al-murderer. I wish you a slow recovery.”

Even during his recent Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Larry continued to receive harsh remarks. One user, tonia.gram_, commented, “Sam Larry thinks Nigerians have forgiven him. Nice outfit by the way, help us put cotton wool in your nostrils.” Another, Effedeborah, wrote, “This guy should just stay off social media, because I don’t think the hate will ever stop.”

In addition to online harassment, Larry has faced false information about him being circulated online. In February 2024, a rumor claimed he and his family had died in a car accident. Larry later debunked the news on Instagram, stating, “I, Sam Larry, want to use this platform to debunk the false information spreading online about my involvement in an accident. Both my family and I are perfectly fine. We spent the day together and even went out for dinner, returning home safely. While some may seek to tarnish my reputation, I entrust them to God for judgment. I appreciate the concerns of my friends and family, but be rest assured, I am doing well, and nothing untoward has occurred. To those spreading falsehoods, may your actions reflect back on you. Thank you, and God bless your home.”

Meanwhile, Mohbad’s mother has also implicated Sam Larry and Naira Marley in her son’s distress. She stated, “Mohbad did not know peace throughout his lifetime. He was always going from one problem to another in the hands of Naira Marley and Sam Larry.”
