A Nigerian man living in the UK was stunned when his wife left him with their five children—just one day after he told her he wanted a divorce.

Sharing his story online, the man admitted he had grown frustrated in his marriage and decided it was time to end things. “A few weeks ago, I called my wife for a serious talk. I told her calmly that I wanted a divorce and had made arrangements to move out by the weekend,” he wrote.

To his surprise, she didn’t react with anger or sadness. “She just nodded and said okay — no arguments, no drama. It was like she had been expecting it,” he said. “She didn’t beg me to stay or try to talk me out of it.”

But what happened next left him completely blindsided.

The very next morning, without warning, his wife packed her belongings, texted him, and left for Nigeria — leaving all five children behind.

“She just sent a message saying, ‘I’m going back to Nigeria. The kids are with you. Goodbye.’ And she took all their passports so I couldn’t travel with them,” he wrote in disbelief.

Suddenly a full-time single dad, the man found himself overwhelmed and unprepared. “I was stuck. She didn’t even think about what it would mean for me to take care of all five kids alone. It was like she washed her hands off everything.”

He tried reaching out to her family in Nigeria for help or information but received no response. Frustrated and exhausted, he described the situation as unbearable. “I felt sick. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t go out, I couldn’t even watch football. My whole life vanished into nappies, night feeds, tantrums, and cleaning.”

Eventually, his sister came to his aid, helping with house chores and watching the kids so he could finally rest.

Despite the chaos, the man confessed he’s been thinking about reconciliation. “I don’t know what kind of woman walks away from her children like this,” he wrote. “They keep asking for her. I’m angry, yes, but sometimes I miss her.”

However, his story didn’t garner much sympathy online.

Commenters, particularly on Threads, were quick to point out the irony of his situation. “So he’s mad because she did exactly what he planned to do?” one user wrote.
