Gunmen attacked a police checkpoint at the Four Corner Junction in Ozalla, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State, resulting in the deaths of at least four police officers.

According to local sources, the officers were conducting routine stop-and-search operations when they came under fire from the assailants. A video circulating on social media, shared by SaharaReporters, shows the lifeless body of one officer on the expressway, with a nearby police patrol vehicle engulfed in flames.

One social media user reported: “Policemen lost their lives today at Four Corner Junction in Enugu state. The expressway connects Enugu with Imo and Abia states.”
Another post added: “Unknown gunmen attacked the police checkpoint at Four Corner Junction today. Tomorrow marks a sit-at-home day in Biafra land.”
As of this report, DSP Daniel Nduke, the Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu State, has not responded to inquiries, nor has Mr. Dan Nwomeh, Special Assistant to Governor Peter Mbah on Media, provided any confirmation or comment on the incident.
Dr. Frank Nweke Jr., a former Information Minister and 2023 APGA governorship candidate, condemned the attack, calling it an act of cruelty. In his statement, Dr. Nweke said, “Today, the Ozalla community in Nkanu West LGA experienced the horror of an attack by unknown gunmen on policemen at a checkpoint on the Four Corner Junction along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. Their patrol vehicle was also destroyed by fire.”
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the Enugu Police Command, emphasizing that such violence against individuals performing their duties is unacceptable.
