See the Number of Princes Compete for the Coveted Owa Obokun Stool in Ijesaland
A total of 35 princes from Ijesaland have expressed their desire to ascend the vacant stool of Owa Obokun, following the death of the revered monarch, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, on September 11.
Sources within the Ijesa Traditional Council revealed to Saturday PUNCH that the pool of candidates includes prominent individuals from both within the local community and the diaspora, all eager to claim the esteemed throne.
“As of the latest count, about 35 candidates have officially shown interest in succeeding the late Owa Obokun,” one source confirmed.
In response to concerns over the selection process, Oba Omokehinde Oyeleye, the Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa and Chairman of the Atakumosa East Local Government Traditional Council, assured all aspirants that the process will be transparent and fair. His comments followed allegations of secretive appointments of Lojas (dukes) within the council.
In a statement signed by his personal assistant, James Olusanya, Oba Oyeleye emphasized his disdain for favoritism and reiterated his commitment to openness in the succession process. He encouraged all interested princes to come forward for consideration, promising a fair and equal opportunity for anyone vying for the Owa Obokun stool.
