On Friday, gunmen ambushed three vehicles on the Osi/Obbo-Aiyegunle road in Kwara State, shooting three travelers. The assailants kidnapped all 20 occupants of the commercial vehicles and forced them into nearby bushes.

The incident, which took place around 3:00 am in a dense forest area between Obbo-Aiyegunle and Obbo-Ile, led to a gunfight between the kidnappers and a rescue team consisting of police, vigilantes, and local hunters.

DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the state police spokeswoman, confirmed the event in a statement on Saturday. She reported that upon receiving a distress call, police and other rescue teams quickly mobilized and launched an extensive search operation.
Three of the victims who sustained gunshot wounds to their legs were transported to a hospital for urgent care.
Ejire-Adeyemi commended the efforts of the police, vigilantes, and community members, noting that their coordinated actions led to the successful rescue of all 20 victims. She emphasized that the police are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend the culprits and ensure the safety of residents and travelers in Kwara State.
The Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, reassured the public that the search for the perpetrators is ongoing. He praised the quick response and bravery of the officers and local vigilantes, and encouraged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police or emergency services.
