In a tragic incident that has shocked the Umuaka community in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a patrol vehicle, resulting in the deaths of three vigilante operatives and a teenager. The attack occurred on Sunday evening, July 7, 2024, near Afor Umuaka and Hilltop Primary School.

According to local sources, the vigilante group was conducting a routine patrol in the area when they were ambushed by the assailants. The gunmen, whose identities remain unknown, launched a surprise attack, leaving the community in mourning and raising concerns about the increasing insecurity in the region.

The deceased vigilante operatives were part of a community security initiative aimed at curbing crime and ensuring the safety of residents. The teenager, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly caught in the crossfire during the attack.
Local authorities have condemned the attack and have promised to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators. “This heinous act of violence is unacceptable. We are committed to bringing those responsible to justice,” stated a spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command.
