See what FG will do as punishment for Skit Makers Releasing Unapproved Online Content

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has announced plans to arrest skit makers who release content online without prior approval. Shaibu Husseini, the head of the board, issued a statement on social media warning filmmakers and content creators to cease producing, promoting, and distributing unapproved content on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter.

The NFVCB expressed concern over the increasing amount of content that violates Nigeria’s censorship laws. The statement read, “The attention of the National Film and Video Censors Board has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous filmmakers/content creators who are clearly flouting the provisions of the country’s law with impunity.”

The board specifically highlighted same-sex content as illegal in Nigeria. It emphasized that all content, including skits and music videos, must be classified by the NFVCB before distribution or exhibition. Referring to the 2014 Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, the board stated, “It is an offense to directly or indirectly make a public show (exhibition) of same-sex relationships in Nigeria.” The NFVCB also reiterated that distributing or exhibiting any film or video content without its classification is illegal.

The board announced its collaboration with security agencies to identify and take legal action against those who violate these regulations.
