See what Lagos Commissioner Vows to do to stop flooding

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, has announced a firm stance on removing structures that impede the flow of rainwater, regardless of the owners’ status
Following severe flooding that inundated many homes and communities in Lagos, Wahab declared that obstructive buildings would be demolished. The areas affected by the recent floods include Epe, Eredo, Bogije, Labora, Abijon, Sangotedo, Awoyaya, and Ibeju-Lekki. Tragically, a primary six pupil named Joshua was swept away by the floodwaters in the Ikosi, Ketu area.
In addition to the flooding, Daily Trust reported incidents where miscreants charged passers-by N100 to cross a makeshift bridge at the Tradefair under-bridge in Lagos.
On social media, Wahab faced criticism from a user questioning if the demolition of properties, predominantly owned by Igbo individuals, was politically motivated. The user @PureStanley1 accused the government of engineering these demolitions and pointed to ongoing flooding issues despite the previous demolitions.
Wahab responded firmly, rejecting the ethnic framing of the issue. He reiterated that more structures blocking rainwater flow would be removed without considering the owners’ social status. “Many more structures obstructing the free flow of rainwater in Lagos will still be removed irrespective of who or how highly placed the owners are. Prepare your mind to make your usual aimless and empty noise. If turning it to an ethnic narrative makes you happy, go ahead! TW,” he posted.
