Sixteen Feared Dead as Passenger Canoe Capsizes in Jigawa

At least sixteen people are feared to have lost their lives after a canoe conveying about thirty passengers capsized in Adiyani village, Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The tragic incident occurred while the canoe was transporting residents between neighbouring communities when it suddenly overturned, throwing all occupants into the river.
Confirming the development, the Jigawa State Police Command said rescue efforts were ongoing to determine the exact number of casualties. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, stated that the accident happened unexpectedly during the journey.
Authorities have continued to monitor the situation as search and recovery operations proceed, while residents of the affected communities remain in shock over the incident.
