Social Media Critic ‘Sarkin Sultan’ Reportedly Arrested by DSS Over Cybercrime Allegations

Kaduna-based social media personality and vocal government critic, known online as Sarkin Sultan, has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with cyber-related offences.
According to insider information shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the arrest occurred in the early hours of Saturday after multiple formal complaints were allegedly filed against the influencer.
One complainant reportedly accused Sultan of threatening to release private photos of her online—an allegation that prompted security forces to open a formal investigation. Early findings reportedly tie him to activities consistent with the complaint. Authorities have stated he may be formally charged in court by Monday, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
Alleged Arrest: Eyewitness Account
In a separate account shared by his wife, unidentified men—believed to be DSS operatives—arrived at Sultan’s residence around 2 a.m. in two black Prado SUVs. She claimed that six individuals were involved; five in official uniforms and one dressed in traditional attire. They repeatedly knocked on the door before Sultan finally opened it. The men allegedly presented an ID, identified themselves as members of the “SS,” confiscated Sultan’s mobile phone, and also took his car. His wife and child were left behind, visibly shaken.
Political Backdrop and Public Concern
Sultan is widely recognized for his outspoken criticism of the Kaduna State Government and other APC leaders. He has built a following by holding politicians accountable and frequently challenging official narratives. His sudden arrest has sparked widespread concern, with many fearing it may be politically motivated.
Critics argue that while peaceful dissent is often met with swift punishment in Nigeria, armed criminals and terror groups continue to operate with relative impunity. The arrest of a vocal critic like Sultan has reignited conversations about freedom of speech and selective justice.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
A support team made up of legal professionals, activists, and social media allies—including individuals affiliated with the “El-Rufai boys” and known Twitter users such as @KHALYD16, @AM_Saleeeem, @Mallam_jabeer, and @mni_JJ—has mobilized to ensure Sultan receives legal representation and due process.
According to updates from the team, the woman allegedly linked to the case, Hafsat Paki, has denied any involvement in the allegations. This has led the team to suspect possible political interference, with attention now turning to both state and federal authorities.
Supporters are demanding a transparent investigation, a fair trial, and Sultan’s immediate release if no substantial evidence is found.
