That Dog You Mocked Made You Governor – Wike Fires Back at Fubara

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded sharply to comments made by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following renewed tensions between both men.

The reaction follows a statement by Governor Fubara at a New Year banquet on Thursday, where he used a metaphor about a dog barking to suggest that certain reactions were unnecessary when loyalty is already established.

Addressing residents of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) on Friday, Wike dismissed the remark and claimed that his political backing was instrumental in Fubara’s rise to office. He said the same “dog” being referenced had spoken up even when Fubara was largely unknown and stood by him when others withdrew support, insisting he was not troubled by the current criticism.

Wike added that his political camp has firmly aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and would not repeat what he described as past political errors. According to him, lessons have been learned and future decisions would reflect that resolve.

He also took a swipe at political figures who previously worked for Atiku Abubakar, arguing that their efforts yielded little electoral success and questioning their current relevance.
