Tinubu Appoints Five New Executive Directors to Drive NCDC Forward

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of five new Executive Directors for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), signaling a renewed commitment to strengthening the nation’s public health system.

The appointments, which are part of the administration’s broader strategy to reposition Nigeria’s health sector, are expected to inject fresh expertise, energy, and leadership into the NCDC at a time when the country continues to grapple with emerging diseases, outbreaks, and the need for robust preventive measures.

According to the Presidency, the newly appointed Executive Directors will oversee critical departments within the agency, ranging from epidemiology and surveillance to laboratory services, preparedness, research, and innovation. Their collective responsibility will be to ensure that the NCDC remains proactive, responsive, and effective in safeguarding the health of Nigerians.

President Tinubu emphasized that the appointments are not only about filling vacancies but also about ensuring that the NCDC becomes a model public health institution capable of meeting global standards. He noted that the appointees were carefully selected based on their professional track records, experience, and dedication to national service.

Public health experts have welcomed the move, describing it as a step in the right direction. They argue that with the right leadership, the NCDC can deepen its collaboration with international partners, strengthen state-level disease surveillance, and build capacity to combat both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Observers believe the appointments will also help the agency consolidate the gains recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, while preparing Nigeria for future health emergencies.

The new directors are expected to assume duty immediately and work closely with the NCDC Director-General, ensuring seamless coordination in policy implementation and program delivery.

By restructuring the leadership of the NCDC, the Tinubu administration has once again underscored its commitment to creating a healthier and safer Nigeria fo

r all citizens.
