Tragedy in Edo: Businessman Killed by Employees After Ransom Payment
Benin City, Edo State — A heartbreaking tragedy has rocked Edo State following the brutal killing of a prominent local businessman by individuals reportedly working under him. Despite efforts by his family to secure his release through ransom payment, the businessman was ultimately murdered by his abductors — some of whom were revealed to be his own employees.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending official confirmation, was said to have been abducted several days ago under suspicious circumstances. According to family sources, the kidnappers initially made contact demanding a substantial ransom. In a desperate bid to save his life, the ransom was quickly paid.
Shockingly, instead of releasing the businessman, the abductors ended his life and abandoned his body in a remote location. The discovery has left the local community in mourning and raised serious concerns about rising insecurity and internal betrayal within the business sector.
Police investigations are currently underway. Preliminary findings indicate that several of the suspects involved in the kidnapping and murder were employees of the victim, raising questions about the growing threat posed by trusted insiders. Security officials confirmed that some arrests have been made, while others remain at large.
“This is a disturbing case,” said an officer familiar with the investigation. “When those closest to you — your own workers — turn against you, it speaks to a deeper problem in our society. We are doing everything possible to ensure justice is served.”
The news has sent shockwaves across Edo State, especially within the business community. Many are calling for stronger vetting processes for employees and more aggressive security strategies to protect individuals from internal threats.
Community leaders and civil society groups have expressed their condolences to the grieving family and urged the government to take urgent steps in addressing the security challenges plaguing the region.
