Tragic Murder in Ibadan: How Man Was Killed by 12-Man Gang in Front of Family
In a shocking and brutal incident, a 24-year-old man named Abass Olalere was murdered by a gang of 12 unidentified assailants in Moniya, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The attack took place on Thursday night at approximately 9:48 pm in Labinkulu village, within the Akinyele Local Government Area.
Witnesses to the horrific event included Abass’s wife, Omolayo Olalere, and their three-month-old son. According to Omolayo, the gang forcibly entered their home, overcoming the family’s attempts to secure the doors and windows. The attackers then savagely assaulted Abass with an array of weapons, including daggers, axes, knives, broken bottles, and cutlasses. They also used charms to ensure he would not survive the attack. Omolayo noted that three of the assailants had their faces covered with masks to avoid identification.
The deceased’s father, Jelili Olalere, expressed his deep shock and confusion over the attack, stating that his son was a peaceful individual with no known enemies. “I cannot understand why they targeted my house and caused such destruction before killing my son,” he lamented.
The violent incident has left the community in a state of grief and fear. On Saturday, residents gathered in groups to discuss the tragic loss of a young life and the brutality of the crime.
The case has been reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Moniya, and Abass’s body has been taken to the Adeoyo Hospital morgue. Attempts to contact the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for further comments have so far been unsuccessful.
