Two killed, 10 injured in Enugu road crash
At least two people have been confirmed dead and 10 others seriously injured following a multi-vehicle accident on the Ugwu Onyeama hill near Ninth Mile Corner along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
The Enugu State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sokunbi Adeyemi, reported that the incident happened between 6 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday on the newly constructed lane.
Reports indicate that the crash involved at least six vehicles, including tankers, a truck, a bus, and two sedans.
According to the FRSC commander, the injured were taken to hospitals for treatment, while the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
Sokunbi noted that preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by brake failure in one of the articulated vehicles, leading to a chain reaction collision.
He expressed concern over the frequent accidents on this hilly stretch, attributing them to vehicles with mechanical issues.
Sokunbi urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before driving on highways to protect their own lives and those of
others.
