Why I Personally Served Food in Imo – Peter Obi Opens Up

Published by on July 13th, 2025.

The act, which many viewed as unusual for a high-profile political figure, took place during a community gathering where Obi was a special guest. Dressed modestly and without fanfare, he was seen moving among guests, serving meals with a smile—a moment that quickly went viral.

In an exclusive statement, Obi clarified that his action was neither staged nor politically motivated. Rather, it stemmed from a deeply personal philosophy of leadership and service.

“Leadership, to me, is not about being served. It’s about serving others, regardless of your position. When I saw the people gathered, especially the elderly and children, I felt it was only right to join in the service, to be part of the community in the most direct way,” Obi said.

The former governor emphasized that his upbringing taught him the value of humility, respect for all people, and the importance of staying grounded.

“I was raised to believe that no role is beneath anyone. Whether you’re a leader or a follower, you must be ready to roll up your sleeves and help. That’s the kind of society I dream of—where we lead by example, not by title,” he added.

Observers and supporters praised the gesture as a refreshing display of humility, especially in a political climate where many leaders are seen as distant from the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens.

Community members at the event described Obi’s presence as uplifting. One attendee, Chinyere Nwosu, said, “We didn’t expect him to serve food. He could have just given a speech and left. But he stayed, he served, and he made us feel seen. It meant a lot.”

This is not the first time Peter Obi has demonstrated such grassroots connection. Throughout his political career, he has consistently championed simplicity, accountability, and people-oriented leadership.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with issues of governance, inequality, and disconnection between leaders and citizens, Obi’s small but powerful act in Imo stands out—a reminder that genuine leadership is often found not in grand declarations, but in small, selfless actions.
