Rev Sister Arrested as Police Rescue Two kidnapped Children in Anambra
Two of the three siblings who were kidnapped by a motorcyclist in Amaba Ime, Ikwuano LGA of Abia State, have been successfully rescued and reunited with their family.
The children were found in Ekwulobia and Nkpor, two towns in Anambra State, thanks to the efforts of security operatives.
This development was confirmed by the Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Mr. Osinachi Nwaka, during a meeting with members of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), Abia State chapter, led by Promise Uzoma Okoro. Mr. Nwaka revealed that a Reverend Sister, part of a child trafficking ring, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
Mr. Nwaka expressed that the abduction of the three children caused him considerable distress, leading him to organize multiple meetings with various security agencies.
He commended the efforts of Governor Alex Otti, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, and other security officials for their roles in rescuing the children and expressed hope that the remaining child would soon be found. The chairman also urged OMPAN members and the general public to help identify and prosecute those involved in the child trafficking network for a safer Abia State.
“There are child trafficking syndicates in every local government. It is shocking that a man paid N1.8 million to buy one of the boys. A Reverend Sister, acting as an intermediary, distributes the children and takes her cut. She is currently detained at the State CID,” Nwaka said.
He also advised parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts and cautioned schools against expelling students over unpaid fees.
