Brutalised Student: See The Numbers of Man O’War Rivers Varsity Suspends

Rivers University Suspends Four Students for Alleged Assault

The Rivers State University in Port Harcourt has suspended four students, all members of the campus Man O’ War group, following their alleged involvement in the brutal attack on Victor Tobin, a 300-level Sociology student.

The university management decided to suspend the students for one academic session after a meeting on Friday. Preliminary investigations indicated that the students had violated university regulations through misconduct, resulting in injuries to Tobin’s face. This decision was communicated in a statement signed by Acting Registrar Mrs. I.B.S. Harry.

The suspended students are identified as P-Monsi Baridukaka Nwaaelibabari from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Victor Chibuike Daniel from the Department of Animal Science, Ezems Ikechukwu Goodluck from the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Wilson Jacob Ree-Ugani from the Department of Marine Engineering.

Mrs. Harry reaffirmed the university’s commitment to discipline and regulatory compliance. She added that the suspended students have been ordered to leave the campus immediately to face disciplinary actions. The university urged all students to maintain a peaceful and harmonious campus environment by strictly adhering to university rules and regulations.

Parents and guardians of the suspended students have been notified, and the university expects them to ensure their wards comply with the suspension and avoid further infractions.

The suspension followed a peaceful protest by students on Thursday, demanding the disbandment of the paramilitary group on campus. The students alleged that the group had violated the rights of Tobin for walking on the pavement near the Man O’ War office building at the male Hostel F. Police were present at the campus to prevent the situation from escalating.

The President of the Student Union Government, Comrade Omubo-Pepple Abinye, also expressed his displeasure over the incident.
